Jo Maiden

Case Manager

Jo joined AKA in 2025 after 25 years as practising as social worker. Jo’s specialisms and areas of expertise are, adults with complex mental and physical health care needs, brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, orthopaedic injury, amputation, neurological conditions, cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

During Jo’s 25 years practising as a social worker she worked with clients and their families who privately fund their care and who may otherwise be excluded from local authority provision. From initial assessment, care planning, monitoring and review, Jo manage complex cases and supported people to navigate health and social care systems.

Jo’s practice is firmly rooted in person-centred, strength-based assessment, working closely and collaboratively with the family, carers and other professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes. Jo’s own personal experience of caring and navigating complex health systems has given her a deep understanding of the emotional impact of adjusting to change and loss. This perspective allows her to approach each situation with genuine empathy, creating space and what matters most and validating concerns.

We asked Jo a few questions to get to to know her better:

1.What is the top thing on your bucket list?

To visit Yellowstone National Park, in the hope of seeing a bear in the wild!

2.What is your favourite film?

The Notebook (I have watched it so many times and cry every time)

3.What is your favourite country to visit and why ?

I am lucky to have visited Canada twice; highlights were Banff, Whistler, Niagara falls and Lake                  Louise. Tromso in Norway is a very close second!
