Support Worker (Woodford)

Job Title: Support Worker

Location: Woodford SK7

Salary: Starting at £15 per hour depending on experience

Hours:

           Flexible

           Initially 5 hours a day to be confirmed but flexible between 08.00 – 20.00

           Waking Nights after days established

We are looking to recruit a new team of support workers, reliable people with a positive outlook. You will be required to support our 8-year-old male client, in his home, and out and about within the area, assisting with his rehabilitation and development under his mother’s and therapists’ guidance. Experience of working with young people/children with a brain injury preferable, training will be given to the right person. DUTIES:

Your duties will include:

  • Supporting the young boy at home and in the community.
  • Assist the young boy with his rehabilitation including soft play, parks, swimming/hydrotherapy, trampolining, running.
  • Assist the young boy with activities of daily living and his development.
  • Good communication essential

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Qualifications: NVQ level 3 preferred, but not essential.

Experience: Working with children/young people, brain injury

Skills: Flexibility, reliability, excellent communication, understands professional boundaries.

Complex care experience in brain injury preferable and working with children. You will be required to support in the child’s own home, and community. Driver essential. Complex Care Support Worker (Great Harwood)

Job Title: Complex Care Support Worker

Location: Great Harwood

Salary: £14.50 weekdays, £15.00 weekday nights, £15.00 weekend days, £15.50 weekend nights

Hours:  12-hour shifts/ Nights and school holidays/ Days split shifts/ Bank contracts available

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals, who have a positive outlook to work within our team, the right candidate will be reliable, punctual, and flexible. They will be required to support our loving and happy 12-year-old client within her family home located in the Great Harwood area.

Our client has suffered an acquired brain injury, leading to cerebral palsy and as a result has complex care conditions. Our client requires support with all her activities of daily living.

Our client enjoys activities such as swimming, days out with family and carers (particularly enjoys going bowling) also enjoys listening to audio books and music, watching movies and crafting.

DUTIES:

Your duties will include:

  • Administering a blended diet and fluids via her PEG tube
  • Administration of medications via her PEG tube
  • Management of oral suctioning and recording of absences/episodes
  • Maintaining personal hygiene needs, including oral hygiene
  • Ensuring skin integrity by correct positioning when sitting in specialist seating and when in bed    and by applying barrier cream as required
  • Implementing any therapy strategies shown by the various therapists and evaluating the outcomes, including completion of daily stretches provided by physiotherapist
  • Using play, singing, audio stories, talking, sensory engagement as therapy strategies
  • Supporting our client’s education when accessing education and learning at home
  • Undertaking general cleaning and household duties related to our client’s needs, including      laundry

To work as part of a team and provide clear communication, including

  • Understanding our client’s communication style and being responsive to her cues
  • Update our client’s parents and share any achievements or concerns
  • Recording clear daily records that conform to the local policies
  • Attend team meetings and supervision sessions
  • Supporting new staff members to understand their roles
  • Maintaining professional boundaries with our client, her family and the wider MDT

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Qualifications:  Ideal candidate will have either achieved Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care – this is desirable however without any of the above qualifications you must complete the Care Certificate if engaged. The candidate must like pets as the family has 3 cats and a dog.

Experience:  Minimum of 2 years working as a carer either as an employee or informally, ideally with individuals with complex care needs.

Skills:

Good communication skills

Good basic computer skills
