Jane Hammond Hawkins

Jane joins us having worked as a nurse since qualifying in 1982. Jane is a BABICM Advanced Practitioner, a level 1 general nurse and registered with the NMC as a nurse and nurse lecturer. Jane has a BSC in Nursing and a MSC in Health professional Education, and has undertaken numerous positions within both the NHS and the private sectors specialising within critical care and the operating theatre, working as a scrub and recovery nurse. Jane was also an operating department manager within the private care sector and has also been a ward sister in a private hospital.

Jane chose to pursue training and education and worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire, within the critical care team, and was also the training manager for a national training company. Jane belives that the purpose for all her training is to change practice to ensure that clients receive a quality of care that they require.

Jane support adults and children who have had catastrophic injuries. This includes ABI, spinal injuries, amputees and clients with sensory impairments, particularly visual loss and deafness. Jane has personal experience of supporting people with disabilities which has provided her with a realistic approach to her work where her client always comes first.

We asked Jane a few questions to get to know her a bit better:

Question: If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

Answer: I would be an owl. I’m an ‘old wise bird who is still prepared to work through the night when required.
