We are recruiting on behalf of one of our clients:

Educational Healthcare Assistant (Paediatric)

Hours: 23 per week

Location: Wolverhampton Area

Hourly rate: £16.50 per hour

Shift Pattern: Monday and Tuesdays 08.00-20.00 (2 x 30-minute unpaid breaks); however, flexibility is needed to cover the second EHA for sickness, holidays, etc.

We are looking for an experienced Educational Healthcare Assistant who is accountable, reliable, flexible, and motivated individual to work within our team. The successful candidate will be providing 1-to-1 support whilst the client is in the school setting, 2-to-1 after school in the client’s home during term time. In the school holidays, you will be expected to work 2-1 at home and out in the community, identifying wheelchair accessible activities for the client to promote sensory engagement, physical movement and offer the relevant support needed to the client and family. You will be working with a 9-year-old female client who has complex care needs, this will include support with suctioning, peg feeds, all transfers and engagement due to the client being none verbal with no voluntary movements. Due to personal care, the family have requested female candidates only, with experience in complex care and the school setting.

Duties:

  • Provide 1-1 support with special educational needs.
  • Engaging with the client throughout all activities, i.e. using sensory play.
  • Use own initiative on medical intervention and escalate when appropriate.
  • Providing implementation of therapeutical programmes.
  • Provide personal care when needed.
  • Undertake mandatory and bespoke training in line with clients’ needs and requirements.
  • Provide suctioning as and when required.
  • Management of client seizures.
  • Preparing blends for mealtimes and providing support to administer.
  • Support clients’ social and emotional development, fostering a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
  • Maintaining a clean and optimal environment

Person specification: Due to personal care needs, the family has requested female candidates only.

Qualifications/Experience: Teaching assistant, Level 2/3 or relevant qualifications or training in special education would be preferred but not essential. Relevant experience working with complex care in Paediatrics in an educational setting ideal. Applicant needs to be understanding and show passion to support the client with additional needs, have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A successful candidate would preferably have a nursing or specialist rehab facility background, awareness and confidence to support clients with their suctioning/peg/seizures and complex medical needs. An ability to manage any challenges, errors and incidents that may arise and report accordingly.

Special Requirements: Car driver preferred but not essential (Client has their own vehicle)
