Paediatric Educational Healthcare Assistant

Location: Sutton Coldfield 

Salary £15.00 – £18.00 per hour (dependent on experience)

Shift Pattern: Monday – Friday 7.30/8 am – 4.30/5 pm in term time/holidays. Annual leave would need to be taken in school holidays, or at a time that is suitable for the family.

We are looking for an experienced Paediatric Education Healthcare Assistant who is reliable, flexible, and a motivated individual to work with our client. Providing 1-to-1 and 2-to-1 support within the family home and or in school. You will be working with a 5-year-old nonverbal female client with no voluntary movement who enjoys music, Barbie dolls, sensory engagement, switch toys and her fluffy pets, hamsters and a kitten. The client has complex care needs; although an NG tube is in place, this is only for hydration and medication administration. The client is fed orally from a spoon a pureed diet as instructed by the private speech and language therapist; a dietician is in place. The client is reliant on support for transfers, engagement and all activities of daily living. Due to personal care support, the family has requested female candidates only, with experience in paediatric complex care.

Duties:

  • Assisting with activities of daily living that are age-appropriate.
  • Use own initiative on medical intervention and escalate when appropriate.
  • Providing implementation of therapeutic programmes.
  • Provide personal care and complete washing and dressing routines.
  • Undertake mandatory and bespoke training in line with clients’ needs and requirements.
  • Provide management of seizures, including administration of recovery medication as and when required.
  • Observations and monitoring throughout the day.
  • Preparing blends for mealtimes as guided by the client’s mum.
  • Administering prescribed and PRN medication as per the client support plan
  • Reporting all concerns to the client’s case management team and her mum.
  • Work in line with relevant guidance, depending on the support location (e.g., school or home).
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Person specification: Due to personal care needs, the family has requested female candidates only.

Qualifications/Experience:  NVQ level 2 or equivalent would be preferred but not essential, relevant experience of working with complex care in Paediatrics; school experience is preferable.

A successful candidate would preferably have a nursing or specialist rehab facility background, and awareness and confidence to support the client with their NG tube/seizures and complex medical needs.

Special Requirements: A car driver is essential (Client has their own vehicle at the Paediatric Educational Healthcare Assistants’ disposal whilst on shift)
