THE AKA NEWSLETTER ISSUE 12 – AUTUMN 2011

The beautiful colours of autumn are with us and it feels like we can finely put our summer clothes away. Life has continued to be busy but filled with fun here at AKA. Our community continues to grow with more staff and clients joining us. Read on to find out what we have been up to.

AKA WALKS WITH GIANTS

AKA at Sherwood Forest

We would like to say a big thank you to Ian Major from the forestry commission for welcoming AKA back to Sherwood Forest for a chance to meet the Sherwood Forest Giants. The giants are magnificent old oak trees some of which date back to the time when Robin Hood and his merry men roamed the forest. We are sure if trees could talk these old fellas would have a lot to say. Our very wet but extremely enjoyable tour ended at the granddaddy of them all, the legendary Major Oak.

Ian and his colleagues regularly do the "Walking with Giants tour" So if you would like to take part in the trail let us know and we will send you an information booklet and map.

Upcoming Events

The life and times of our dog for the disabled

Dogs for disabled

We are very proud of our dog for the disabled Sammy who completed his training at the beginning of the year and is now working in Pontefrac with his new owner, Lyndsay. We have managed to raise the funds to sponsor another dog. Our dog has not been allocated yet but Angela will be visiting the Dogs for Disabled, Francis Hay Centre in Banbury on the 16th November 2011 to hand over a cheque and look round the site. If anyone would like to join Angela on that day give the office a call on 0115 9540167 and we will sort this out for you.

Stamp collection

A special thank you goes to Balens Insurance (one of our friends) who have already sent us a parcel of stamps. Thanks guys :-) We are still collecting used postage stamps as part of our fund raising ventures for dogs for the disabled.

Please send your stamps to Sarah in the office:

AKA SEND PINS FLYING

The bowling event in August was a great success, staff, clients and families all got together and had a fabulous time. It seems the AKA staff need a bit more practice though as they spent most of the afternoon avoiding the pins and hogging the gutter.

Getting to know you

Sarah Albans – Office Assistant

Sarah joined our ever growing office team in February 2011, she has a strong customer service background and worked in a Dental practice before joining us. Sarah is so efficient, she hands you what you asked for before you finish asking for it.

Our Sarah is really active and after working hard in the office all week in her spare time she loves part taking in Zumba (a combination of Latin moves) and with all those Latino guys Sarah, we understand why!!!...... At the weekend we know she can be found boogieing into the wee small hours with very high shoes on. She also adores attending music gigs all over the UK. Often you will find Sarah buried in the pages of a good book or spending her lunch hour browsing the shops.
